You can enjoy a game in a language you don't speak, but no single tool covers everything. First work out whether your problem is text on screen, spoken dialogue or talking to other players, then pick the right tool for each.
Trannel runs on Windows PCs. Send yourself the link to download it later on your PC – or join our Discord in the meantime.

A language barrier in games usually comes in three forms, and each needs a different solution:
Text-heavy games such as many visual novels and RPGs need a text solution. Action games, voiced story games and online games with voice chat benefit more from audio translation. Many players end up combining two tools.
For text that only appears on screen, the common options are:
Be honest with yourself about how much text the game has: for a text-only visual novel, an audio translator will not help, and a text tool or a translation patch is the right choice.
For voiced content, Trannel translates what your PC plays into live subtitles in an overlay that stays on top of the game. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 and recognises Japanese, Korean and Chinese speech (among 20 languages), with automatic language detection and a specialist model for Chinese.
Because it works from the sound, you don't need to modify the game. The same setup works for streams, videos and Discord calls about the game.
Online games with Japanese, Korean or Chinese communities add a second challenge: understanding teammates and being understood. Trannel can subtitle incoming voice chat the same way as game audio.
For the other direction, the Voice feature (beta) translates your microphone and speaks it with a natural voice into a virtual microphone. The installer option Voice for Discord (Beta) sets up the VB-Audio Virtual Cable for this. You then select that virtual microphone in Discord or in a game's voice chat, as long as the game lets you choose the microphone. You can use push-to-talk or keep it always on. Natural voices are available for 13 languages; the others use Windows voices.
Note on “Voice for Discord”: this feature is in beta. It may contain errors and its scope and behaviour may differ from a later version. It is only included in the version from trannelapp.com. Please test it with the free 30 minutes per week before you buy. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
No. Trannel translates only spoken audio. Text that only appears on screen is not read, so for menus and unvoiced dialogue you need a screen text translator, a translation patch or a community guide.
No graphics card is required, though an NVIDIA or AMD GPU makes it faster and allows the larger model. Translation runs offline on your PC; it only goes online for the license check, updates and the first model download.
