Random matchmaking, international servers or a new friend from abroad: sooner or later your team does not share a language. Here is what actually works in voice chat, from simple habits to live translation, and how Trannel can help you understand and be understood.
Trannel runs on Windows PCs. Send yourself the link to download it later on your PC – or join our Discord in the meantime.

Many teams already coordinate across languages with a few simple habits. They cost nothing and work in every game:
These habits get you surprisingly far, but they break down when you want real conversation, tactics or just to chat with your squad.
When gestures and keywords are not enough, there are a few ways to bridge the gap:
Whichever route you choose, remember that any machine translation can get things wrong, especially with game-specific slang, map names and fast overlapping voices.
Trannel is a Windows 10/11 app that translates whatever your PC plays, including game voice chat and Discord, into live subtitles. The subtitles appear in an overlay that stays on top of your game.
One honest limit: Trannel only translates what is spoken. Text that only appears on screen, such as written chat or menus, is not read.
Understanding is half the job. With the Voice feature (beta), Trannel takes your microphone, translates what you say and speaks it with a natural voice into a virtual microphone.
This works in Discord and in game voice chats that let you choose the microphone. Natural voices are available for 13 languages; for the other languages Windows voices are used. Because the feature is in beta, test it with a friend before a ranked match.
You can try it with 30 free minutes every week, with all features and no account. After that there is a monthly, yearly or lifetime license.
Note on “Voice for Discord”: this feature is in beta. It may contain errors and its scope and behaviour may differ from a later version. It is only included in the version from trannelapp.com. Please test it with the free 30 minutes per week before you buy. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
No. Trannel speaks your translated words into a virtual microphone on your PC. You select that microphone in Discord or the game's voice chat, and your teammates simply hear it like any other voice. The Voice feature is currently in beta.
No. Speech recognition and translation run offline on your PC. No audio or text is uploaded; Trannel only goes online for the license check, updates and the first model download.
They are AI-generated and can contain mistakes, especially with slang, names and people talking over each other. For critical calls, combine translation with pings and short agreed keywords.
